A lace front wig gives you the most natural-looking hairline of any wig. A sheer lace panel runs along the front, so the hair looks like it grows from your scalp and you can wear it off your face. This guide explains how lace front wigs work, what they cost at NURA, how to choose the right one, and how to install and care for it.
What is a lace front wig?
A lace front wig has a strip of fine lace along the hairline, with each hair tied into the lace by hand. The rest of the cap is a sturdier wig cap.
Once you trim and blend the lace, the hairline looks natural and you can part and style the front freely.

How to install a lace front wig
- Prep your hair. Braid or cornrow it flat and put on a wig cap that matches your skin tone.
- Clean your hairline. Wipe your skin with a little alcohol or a gentle cleanser so the lace sits flat.
- Place the wig. Line the lace up just in front of your natural hairline and secure the adjustable straps.
- Trim the lace. Cut the excess lace slowly, in small sections, following your hairline. Leave a tiny edge rather than cutting too close.
- Secure it. Use a wig glue, a bonding gel or a melt band, depending on how long you want to wear it.
- Blend and style. Press the lace flat, lay your edges and style the hair.

How to care for your lace front wig
- Be gentle with the lace. Lift it slowly with an adhesive remover. Never pull it off.
- Clean the lace after removing glue so residue does not build up.
- Wash every 2 to 3 weeks of regular wear in cool water with a mild shampoo and conditioner.
- Air dry on a wig stand. Use heat only on human hair, and use a heat protectant.
- Store it on a stand or in a satin bag to protect the lace and the hairline.
Common questions
Do I need glue for a lace front wig? Not always. You can wear it with the adjustable straps and a melt band, but glue or gel gives the most secure, natural finish.
Can I wear my hair off my face? Yes. That is the main advantage of a lace front. The lace hairline lets you part, slick back or ponytail the front.
Is a lace front wig good for beginners? It takes a little practice. If you are new to wigs, start with a headband or closure wig, or book an installation.
